The fascist British National Party are standing in the forthcoming by-election in the Goresbrook ward in Barking on 23rd June 2005. Daniel Kelley, the BNP's first councillor in London since 1993, recently stood down triggering this by-election. He had won this seat in September 2004 with over half the vote on a low turnout.
Where the BNP have a presence, racist attacks increase - in the year running up to Kelley's election, racist attacks have soared by 18% in Barking and by 120% in neighbouring Havering.
At the general election, the BNP received their highest national vote in Barking with 16.89% of the vote - they see the area as a target for further advances.
THIS IS A CHANCE FOR ALL THOSE OPPOSED TO THE FASCIST BNP TO ENSURE THEY DO NOT WIN BACK THIS SEAT. wondering what all the fuss is about. 'Shakedown '05' will bring together the diversity of Nottingham's cultural life (live bands, DJs, visual artists, performance artists)
at this very big one-off non-profit DIY all-night event that tries to bring together as large a variety of people, music and arts as
possible. Showcasing the best of Nottingham's sound systems, party collectives, breakdance crews, clubs, bars, art exhibitions,
and community groups, people will be shaking down to 12 hours of solid Jump-up Live Party Hip Hop, Heavy Dub Reggae,
Hard House, Pissed off Punk Rock, Horny Horns Ska, Dirty Drum & Bass, Rabble Rousing Folk, Banana Broken Beats,

The opportunities are within Birmingham based music related companies
The placements will be for a a period of two weeks and will start before the end of March.
There are limited funds to cover travel expenses but individuals will be able to claim up to £5 a day to reduce any travel costs.

by Seth Faergolzia, leader of dufus "The world is everybody's, nobody owns anything...everything that's happening is meant to happen, otherwise it would not be happening." In all places there are sounds, delicious landscapes to be heard: a passing train, twittering birds in the park, the shifting of a newspaper in a quiet room. Without ears with which to hear such subtlety, the music will sound empty, devoid of personality. Politic is a structural piece of one huge blemish, something best avoided perhaps like a volcano but not as cool to look at. It would seem that politic causes destruction just like any other "act of god" in the earth's ever changing atmosphere except that we are in control of it. Accept that. We are in control. A person hidden away on a mountain meditating, relinquishing all grasp on things believed by the rest of the world to be of importance becomes freed of the corporate control which attempt to direct our desires for monetary benefit. This human being, tucked away in some remote position, once emptied of self, becomes a vent to the needs of the universe, a perfect tool like a wild animal but with the sensibility of a human. As a musician, this ability to be emptied of all worry is crucial. I choose to avoid the media machine in order to affect change and positivity upon my immediate environment thus sending effective change exponentially. What choice have i? It we attempt to sift through all the layers of untruth and manipulation by reading and watching it, we will be forced to become the thing which we most desire to change. It is much like when a person sets out to become a politician; at the start, he/she has every intention to bring about idealism, but in order to rise up within the system, they are forced to make compromise after compromise. Soon enough, this dreamer has fallen prey to the subtle manipulations of an invisible beast. The beast and the once hopeful politician are helplessly dependand upon one another, and this symbyosis cannot be severed without collapse. What I propose as a solution is this: Someone smart said, "We must become the change we wish to see." Basically, we form alliances with the people we agree with and take ourselves out of the big picture. Without sacrifice, there will be no gain. We must actually do the things we wish to see happening, break the laws we dissagree with, make the society we believe in, separate from the ease and comfort of the masses, forge a new path. Yes, I agree, there are things going on in our world which are going to destroy us all if we cannot convince the controllers to change their present course of action, but if we have no refuge to turn to, who will join us? We want to enlighten the ignorance, right? The ignorant masses reside in a comfortable state; they will not desire to leave this state unless something more attractive comes along. It is going to take quite an attractive distraction to open the driver's eyes to the lack of vehicle which was preprogrammed to take him into the timeless and infinite. What am I saying here? The best form of resistance is no resistance at all. Resistance only causes us to act in spite of a circumstance, thus giving that circumstance power over our actions. Our actions must move in a pro-direction, on, to the new frontier. Dufus presents a deep and transcendent mixture of confrontational songwriting, whip-smart lyricism and massive beats interspersed with avant-punknoise and groundbreaking improvisation; they are helping to define the curve for an awakening generation of artful musicians. Their edgy but positive sound vibration has earned them an expanding and loyal following throughout the Northeast and parts of Europe. Born in 1996 as an open collective for creative musicians, the band has forged excursions into multimedia, rock-opera, junkyard fashion and even orchestral works landing in a hard pocket of 5 solid members. Dufus has toured extensively in the U.S., Europe and Japan, and has shared the stage with The Black Dice, Moldy Peaches, Ween, The Frogs, Animal Collective, Adam Green, Jeffrey Lewis, Cornershop, Regina Spektor, Low, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs to name a few. NME: "Phenomenal live." dufus has performed at various venues around NYC including Joe's Pub, Tonic, The Mercury Lounge, The Knitting Factory, The Wetlands, Galapagos, Sidewalk Cafe, Sin-E, North Six, and the Bowery Poetry Club. They appeared in the 2001 Warped Tour and have toured several countries including Japan, The UK, Holland, Germany, and France. Be on the lookout for increasing tourdates in 2005. Seth Quankmeyer Faergolzia was born March 4, 1975 in Utica, NY, and fostered by a musical family, began singing and experimenting with instruments shortly thereafter. Beginning with the cello, Seth quickly made his way to the upright bass, the bass guitar, and finally landed on the acoustic six-string. Seth got an early start as a performer. At 15, he joined his first band, playing bass for local Syracuse punk rockers, Dark Circle. Then at 16, he began playing bass for a "weird" metal band, Nocturnal Fear. From 17-18, he performed in an alternative rock band, Goat. In 1993, Seth and Brent "Strictly Beats" Cole, a high school friend, formed Cleaveland Funk Tribe, an acoustic band composed of guitar, trombone, cello, clarinet and drums which performed a sort of "oddly shaped" music. In 1995, the band released their first recording, Stompalomp and had their first public performance at CBGB's. Shortly after recording their second, unreleased album, Seth went on to pursue his talents as a solo artist. Seth put out his first two LPs, Welcome to the Family and We Are All Related, under the name Rufus, and soon after, in 1996, gave birth to Dufus, debuting with their seminal work, Our First Born, a full-length release featuring a bizarre orchestration of toy piano, banjo, bass, acoustic guitar and four vocalists. In 1997, Seth partnered with Graham Dion to collaborate on Ee-Lai-Font, Dufus' second release. The following year, Dufus released Th!s Revolution, which the respected underground 'zine Ink19 likened to "tasting the fruit off the vine after a lifetime of grape soda." The band began playing out heavily, at venues such as The Knitting Factory, The Wetlands, Sidwalk Caf?, Arlene's Grocery and other spots around NYC. In that time, Seth also released his solo album, Brand Purpose Syndrome, on which he was joined by John Ludington, of The Barefoot Gravediggers, whom Seth considers his greatest musical influence. In 1998, Seth embarked on an exploration of musical theatre, combining his unusual music with equally strange performance art into the rock opera Fun Wearing Underwear, which staged nearly two-dozen performances at Surf Reality on New York's Lower East Side, as well as Dumba, SUNY Purchase, Bard College, and Sidewalk Caf?. Recordings of this material later appeared on the live album Funderwear. During the second month of Fun Wearing Underwear's performance, Seth began creating his Celibacy Pants, which in 2000, were featured alongside pieces by Jean Michel Basquiat in a showing at the now defunct DNA Gallery in SoHo. Since that time, Seth has created a variety of fashions he calls UGL Brand "Clothestumes," some of which are available in Seth's online shop. In 2000, Seth released Quankmeyer Faergoalzia Pip, which was vehemntly denied radio play yet found its way into the hearts of Departure Records, which included the single "Disassemblement of Reality" on their punk compilation Words Will Never Be Actions. In 2001, Dufus returned to the studio and recorded Neuborns. This was followed by 1:3:1 in 2002, which was picked up by ROIR Records. Something of a theologian-idiot-guru, Seth is also the creator of "The Complete and Absolute Disassemblement of Reality," a spiritual doctrine favoring the individual's transcendence of the status quo consensual hallucination. Seth currently resides in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he is working on Dufus' next release, Ball of Design. His newest solo album, Don't Call Me Hippie, is due in November. Dufus can regularly be seen at locations such as the Mercury Lounge and the Knitting Factory and Seth can often be found playing antifolk nights at the Sidewalk Caf?. In his own words—
