It is the island on which George Orwell wrote "1984", the KLF burnt 1,000,000 pounds in a disused boathouse, has 5000 deer and 200 human inhabitants and a giant whirlpool off the northernmost tip. There is no resident policeman and there has been no rape, mugging or other serious crime in the past 200 years. Anyhow, it was a wet trip and involved me getting soaked and having a soaking wet sleeping bag and set of clothes for three days. Highlight was a three hour night hike, taking in millions of deer, millions of stars (amazing skys when there aren't any street-lights), five shooting stars, two bats, one owl (i think... it was a bit dark) and one very bright unexplained flash of light in the sky (not thunder... it was a point, not a sheet or bolt and there was *no* accompanying noise of any sort... my best guess is a large meteorite from the shower presumably passing over, but it sure spooked me for a few minutes!!!) Anyhow, I have signed the Jura Hotel guestbook as of 27.9.2000. I was first. Who's next? Take it as a Discordian Project challenge. You can camp outside the hotel (I did this and cheekily signed the guestbook anyway...) Have at ye!!!! from Mark Jan 2001 I made it to Jura for Christmas 2000 and New Year 2001 I found my way to the Boathouse where the KLF burnt a million quid. The boathouse is at Craighouse, you can see it on the right as you walk/cycle/drive/use pogostick up the road from the Ferry towards Jura House gardens. I drank Jura whisky. I saw deer, views, sea, sky. I crossed Morgans name out of the Jura Hotel guest book. I added my own name and enjoyed several peaceful days wandering around the island. as if anyone gives a damn.........who's next then? |
