Alan Zimbabwe John Dillinger Others Clarence Peabody Summer Fauve Nick Green | | My Mad Mother For I remember the moon Clad in purple silk A radiant ghostly pearl I have no knowledge of winter ritual But I do know that the moon's life depends on mine For my deepening life Transmits itself to her, my mad mother She rises up fecund and florid And she will kill us with her light She has eyes that mourn in solitude Eyes that will tear us to pieces Ensnare us with their sight Silver one Old one Knowing one My ancient friend Murmurs and speaks of life above the ordinary Of life in a sacred shell The snail's shell that seals its path With a snaky silver kiss Where life is radiant and closer to the gods And night falls In adamant refusal to All other bids to wealth This is the true Kingdom The Kingdom of the hills Starve in solitude My children, she whispers I will find you later Deeper and ever deeper But now I think I shall eat my way out of the shell Composed and serene And ready for the next loving kill.
