99 TEMPESTS.

On the verandah waits sleeping Miranda,
Burning her feet on the rubbery stones
Chanting the lines and recalling the lines,
In the stuck record of thunder and foam.
Caught in a searchlight that lasts for a contract,
The storm of experience drenched to the bone,
From Disneyland village to provincial cities,
Caught in a maelstrom that grows to be home.

99 Tempests that rolled all around you
99 Tempests that lost you at sea,
99 Tempests that threatened to drown you
99 Tempests that kept you from me.

Caliban waits with an innocence bludgeoned
By words honed by critics to sharp pointed sticks
And Prospero's cloak is torn in twain nightly
Taken away to be mended and stitched.
The first mortal man, nay, save thy father,
Is regularly wandering to meet you again...
Invisible Ariel, nightly delivered
Will bow, weep and tremble, and thunder with pain.

The World lies before you, soon day you'll be reaching
Naples, Milan, and civilization.
The lesson she's learning a hundred times over
Befits well a princess with new destinations.
The worlds eyes have watched, and the storm is abating,
You've made well your mark on this Island in time,
A Brave New World waits, which you have created,
The stuff of dreams, and in it, you're mine.
